Help us improve our price history charts

The attached image is an example of the new version of the Camel price history charts. The numbers on the right hand side are the current prices, and the colored rectangles inside the chart represent the lowest prices.

One important thing to note is that these new charts more accurately represent the passing of time, rather than displaying price changes like they occur one day after the other.

Currently I think the main thing the chart lacks is thicker lines for the data, and in general the lines need to be easier to see. How can we make it better? What do you want to see? Please share your thoughts!

I think it would be nice to be able to scroll through the history, if there is data from farther back than is showing.

Or toggle views of past Week, 2 Weeks, Month, Year..something like that.

    (I'm using firefox 3.5.7)

Here's what the current version of our price history charts looks like:

I personally, would like 4 months as default; especially around January with all the "sales" hitting the market starting in November.

Being able to toggle time would be a nice step up if it doesn't affect performance too much.

I have 2 more suggestions for possible improvement (you can place these in a different topic if you'd like):

-This one might not be possible, but it has to do with performance. When camel is collecting the data to show the sidebar it has to reload the page and it sometimes is annoying for the extra wait (especially if you don't care about the price history of that product). **So the improvement, which I'm not sure if it's possible (it seems like adblock plus figured it out), is having it load embedded in the page. Or something so that it doesn't have to reload.

-Being able to change the location of the current sidebar, which someone brought up about the newegg one. A new feature could be where camel is displayed (the option could be right on the object itself or in the tools menu). Some suggestions of where: Toolbar icon (like adblock or google), bottom toolbar (like lazarus), bottom left or right corner in general displayed the way it is, just popping up from there, or left side opposed to right.

Thank you for everything so far,

    Mike

Hm, well maybe it's just my version of firefox or my computer or something, but whenever I click on a product on amazon it goes to it and then a few seconds later the page reloads and then displays the camel sidebar. So what I am asking (if its not just my browser), is there a way to make it so the page doesn't need to auto-refresh to display the camel?

Weird. It isn't it doing anymore...could have been the amount of tabs I had open or something..

But I am using the latest 'stable' version of firefox 3.5.7

I'll let you know if I get any insight on it, like if it is specific pages or if it has to do with the amount of open tabs or whatnot.

I think I have actually found a bug this time.

    http://www.amazon.com/MEDIFLOW-Water-...

Says on your site that it is out of stock and that the last scan was 3 hrs ago, but on the site that's not so. Maybe I had clicked on it sometime after the scan and they just changed the stock (I doubt it but its possible)?

Also, don't forget about the email I originally sent you about the individual item tracking if there are multiple on the page; whenever you get time, no rush. I hope the input is a good thing rather than just a burden.

And I'm really liking the longer history list (the longer, the better IMO), its def an awesome improvement.

Our site lists it as being in stock by a 3rd party, which is true in the case of that product. It is sold by a 3rd party but fulfilled by Amazon.

I haven't forgotten =) Usually, when I go through periods of email silence, it means I'm deep in development of new features. Speaking of which, expect some updates soon!

Your suggestions are a great thing and very appreciated, definitely not a burden.

Oh that makes sense, I hadn't noticed the red dash line before.
That's awesome! I am excited to see the new stuff.
    I'm glad I can help. :)

I'm sure you've checked but just want to run it by ya, do you know if it will be compatible with firefox 3.6? I guess its suppose to come out soon.

And since you're almost done with the updates, I figure I have to run another idea by you. Since the whole idea is tracking the products is there a way you could implement a tracking of when the price goes up. Its similar to another firefox plugin; my reason for using it would be to know if I want to sell something on there.

I know these ideas are getting kind of complex but you could have an alert for if I bought something at just the wrong time, in the way of having an alert for big price drops (as an option: if checked sort of thing).

PLEASE don't remove the long-term price history. Many times there is a lower price than what is shown in the shorter time period on the main page, but if it didn't occur during that period, it won't show up as the lowest price. So, when the text says "Lowest price" it's really just for that time period, not the life of the product or last few years etc. The long-term chart also does a good job of showing price changes/trends over time.

I think you need bubbles or makers at the various extreme highs and lows to indicate what the actual price was at that time. Even in your example I guess the low was ~$800 but I don't really know for sure.
