include shipping costs
This seems obvious, but price alerts should be compared against the merchant price with shipping. We all know shipping costs vary widely among vendors. A new item selling through Amazon for $75 could end up being cheaper due to free shipping than a third party item selling for $60.

I've been investigating this more today, and it seems that Amazon doesn't make shipping prices available to us. If I can figure out a good way to get a hold of that data, I will add it to the site, but for now there isn't much I can do about it.

This is on my to-do list. Consider your voice *heard*.

Nothing firm, unfortunately. Would you rather see new retailer coverage or shipping data at Amazon first?

Thats okay, thanks very much for looking into it and good luck with the research.
If it helps at all I did a little digging and found this: https://forums.aws.amazon.com/thread.... -

Thanks for sharing that link. I'll see if I can make a request to Amazon so they will add it to their API. Scraping isn't the way for us to get it, as it has the potential to break far too easily.

What about starting with just Amazon Prime eligibility, would that be any easier? That's a huge factor in my buying decision. (In my own little dream world it'd be one of the tracking options, Amazon, Generic Prime, 3rd Party Used & New).
-
Adding support for Amazon Prime somehow has been on our todo list for ages, but we've yet to see Amazon release a way to tell if a product is Prime or not. They mentioned it in their documentation once, then quickly retracted it when we asked for more information.
I'm pretty sure we can tell if a product is shipped by Amazon but sold by a third party. Is that useful at all? -

If you can that is very useful! Especially for buyers outside the country of origin of the relevant amazon site because most 3rd party sellers do not send the items abroad but amazon does. Also free super saver shipping is free in amazon.co.uk for most countries of Europe if the item is shipped from amazon, no matter who the seller is.
-
Good to know. We'll see what we can do.

-
Yeah, it seems like if Amazon's doing the shipping, then it's eligible for prime/super-saver/etc. I might be wrong, or there may be exceptions, but throw up a disclaimer and implement that shizzle! :p

This would be great to see added, since getting emails about price drops (when the price stays the same if shipping is included) is really frustrating. I would like to be able to set a price track for 3rd party prime only.

Unfortunately it looks like Amazon is doing away with both shipping price and Amazon prime data, so we will be unable to provide either unless they exempt us from their forthcoming API changes.

We do collect that data, but our most recent redesign must have removed it from the product page.
A SuperSaver option on price watches sounds neat / useful, and is something we'll keep in mind as we work on the "advanced options" addition of the new/edit price watch forms. -

Can you add shipping costs per category to user preferences? In other words, I want to go into my preferences on CCC and say that shipping for a music CD costs $2.98. CCC will then incorporate this into all my existing price watches in this category so the price watch alerts are $2.98 lower than I set them (e.g., I set the alert at $5 but the alert is really at $2.02 because of the shipping cost).
When creating a price watch, there can be a checkbox about "Include shipping costs" or something to determine whether or not the price should be automatically adjusted. -
-
That's an interesting idea, quietmint. Are shipping prices per category static enough to make that useful though?
-
-
Yes, I believe they are, according to category, the seller is allotted a fixed amount for shipping.
-
-
If that is the case perhaps we could even pre-populate those fields for you, and simply note that choosing to include shipping prices will result in a "best guess" total price.

For most items (books, CDs, clothing, etc.), the shipping rates are based on the category of the item and the number of items ordered (e.g., an order consisting of a single audio CD costs $2.98 to ship, whether it is ordered through Amazon.com or a third party merchant). Heavy items like electronics, furniture, toys, and food, have a weight-based rate instead. See Amazon.com Help: Shipping Rates for the United States. A simplified model of this that accounts for shipping an order consisting of the one item being tracked (e.g., add $2.98 for each audio cd, add $3.99 for each book, etc.) would be great.
