I’m

We are working on some things -- either putting our charts into existing apps, or creating our own apps -- that will be tasty. I don't know when exactly they will be ready though, as we have lots of work to do and apparently some hoops through which we must jump before we're allowed to go mobile.
So, all I can really say now is that I would love to see the camel on mobile devices, and hope that happens in the near future.
I do have a question for you: what features would you like to see in such an app?-

man if you make my phone buzz on price alerts i will be sharing this app with everyone i know!

pushing price alerts to a mobile device means users will notice, sending price alerts to email... not so much.

-
bdyates: don't most mobile devices support email (and notify you when it arrives)?
-

yes and no, the iphone will beep when new mail arrives, but i turn that off because of the volume of mail i receive... there is no easy way to selectively alert for a specific email. (as to why, ask steve jobs)
if i am tracking a price with camelcamelcamel (and i have in the past), i definitely want a price alert to get my attention, and generally speaking, in today's world email is no longer a good way to get someone's attention.-
i agree here... email is constantly coming in, and you get so used to it that you don't always immediately check it. just two days ago i got an alert for a product i've been waiting a good while to hit the mark, and it finally did. by the time i checked my email and saw the alert, i jumped on the site, and bam! it had jumped from $54.99 up to $79.99. gotta love a certain site's 2 hour price cuts!

i hope this happens... i am an addict to my iphone, and i'm an addict to the almighty camel. if i could somehow squeeze the camel into my iphone, i would be in true heaven. been dreaming of a camelizer app for years. all it needs is to interface with the site, basically (in my mind) it would show your watchlist, must like on the site, except in iPhone graphics, and it would allow you to do what you can do here -- basic things such as view the main table, then if they click on an "edit" button and tap one of the entries, it takes them to a screen that allows them to edit price, delete it, etc. then, back to the main screen, each item in the table can have a > at the end, and you touch it, and it takes you to the summary screen with history info.
i can understand the concern over creating graphs, especially, on the iPhone. i think that would be complicated, and in my opinion, just seeing a good, solid text history of all price changes and the high/low/average would suffice. if i need to see long-term or a graphic history, i'll get on the computer.
then, instead of sending emails, or twitter posts, it could do pop up notifications to tell you that so and so has hit your price, and have a "close" and a "buy" button. that way, if they hit "buy" it takes them straight to the page and they can get it. that also would ensure you get the click-thru link (i imagine you get some minor credit for referral) -- at least i hope so, because without this site, i probably wouldn't have bought half of the stuff that i have from amazon in particular!
how cool. also waiting on a safari extension sometime... but no rush, iphone app can take priority ;) i'd be glad to help make it, but unfortunately, i have no experience in objective-C to program the app (though I'm attempting to learn, unfortunately you've gotta have a Mac to develop the apps); or at least be running OS X in a virtual machine... which i am able to test it out with.
but seriously, the site and plugins are great; sliced bread has nothing on it -- i brag about CCC to *everyone* and try to convince them to use it. they are fools otherwise... bunch of hard-headed people i know. you'd think that saving substantial amounts of money would be a pretty high priority on most peoples' agenda. oh well -- they can pay double the price that i pay for the same thing.
no straw on my back! -

Great ideas, tweaquil. I just emailed Amazon last week about getting their permission to make mobile apps...yes, they require us to ask them first or they will shut down our site. It isn't very nice of them, and I doubt they will approve our request (most get denied), but that is the situation.
Hopefully they respond with a big fat YES so we can get started on an iphone app! -

Not only that, Dan... We've all heard that Apple is a real bully when it comes to apps that involve other sites, etc. Remember, they recently turned down... who was it? I forgot, but it was some really big site who had submitted their app (oh yeah! it was Readability!) and Apple swatted them down. There was a big debate over "where is the line drawn" between what is acceptable and what is not, copyright wise, etc. Either way, best of luck, I'd love to see it, you know that much! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for understanding! We will certainly do everything we can to make it happen.
